Newsletter for the week of February 28th

Good Morning Cavalier Families,

After a cold week of inside recesses, it looks like the weather might be warming up, and we will be heading back outdoors! Please remember to send coats and gloves as the first morning recesses tend to be quite chilly compared to our afternoon recesses.

It is hard to believe that spring break is just a few short weeks away and that we will be entering our final quarter of the school year. I encouraged our teachers to take time this weekend to reflect on where they want to be at the end of the year, and I encourage you to do the same with your children. Set some goals for the last weeks of school and check on them regularly to see how they are doing with those goals. Setting goals helps everyone to achieve great things.

Message from Mrs. Dalton, DCES Librarian

DCES Read-a-Thon!

The last few years, it's felt like I've been in survival mode. Maybe the same is true for you, too. Well, it's time to get back to those good reading habits! We're going to spend two weeks from February 28th - March 11th focusing on reading for enjoyment through our school-wide Read-a-Thon! (This also doubles as a fundraiser to earn money to buy books for our school!) Tracking reading minutes and collecting donations happens digitally through the Read-a-Thon website.

Flyers were sent home Tuesday, February 22nd, with directions on activating your student's account (or you can use this link). Students learned about the Read-a-Thon when they visited the library.

We have set aside 10 minutes in each class to spend time reading for enjoyment each day. If the student's account is active, those minutes will go towards their potential rewards.

A great opportunity has opened up to volunteer on the PTO board next year! The position of treasurer will be open. This person manages the budget with easy, online software, helps to coordinate grants between the PTO and DCES staff, and gets to help decide the direction of the PTO for the year with the other three board members. The previous treasurer will be available to train and assist with questions throughout the year. If you are interested or have questions, email us at [email protected]

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Sly
