Empowered to lead

Week of September 15-19, 2025

Good Morning Cavalier Families,

It was a wonderful week at DCES filled with collaboration, celebration, and leadership growth! From a cheerful spirit during Spring Hill High School Homecoming Parade, to our productive PLC Day and PTO meeting, and finishing the week with warm smiles on Fall Picture Day, our school was buzzing with positive engagement!

Our teachers collaborated to review student performance and set grade-level and classroom WIGs (Wildly Important Goals), while students set their own individual goals. Feel free to ask your child about their Leadership Portfolio or Leader in Me binder, the goals they are working on, and the commitments or action steps they have chosen to help reach those goals (e.g. reading 15 minutes each night, practicing math fluency for five minutes a day, or exploring a non-fiction book in the library each week.) We also encourage you to ask how you could support them at home as they work toward their goals and celebrate their progress along the way. Thank you so much for your support in ensuring that our Cavaliers are Empowered to LEAD and demonstrate Excellence Every Day!

Handbook Highlights

Birthday/Invitation:

Please do not distribute any social invitations at school. If you wish to send treats to everyone in the classroom, treats must be store bought and checked by the nurse before going to the classroom. Please notify the teacher on the date treats are being sent.

Classroom Parties

Parents should check with the classroom teacher before sending treats to the classroom. All treats must first go to the office and be checked by the school nurse before being taken to the class. We appreciate parents who volunteer to assist with classroom parties, if you plan to attend parties please make other arrangements for younger siblings.

CKLA Tall Tales

Empowered to Engage

Engaged Community

Our 3rd Graders wrapped up Unit 1 with a “Tea Party”. The students had book themed snacks and discussed the classic tales. They also had a guest speaker from Kansas Corn come talk about the rural communities.

Thank you so much for your continued support for our school! If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, don't hesitate to reach out. We’re always here to listen!

Wishing you a relaxing weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Miller
